3. Another flag or pennant may be flown above the American flag only during church services conducted at sea by U.S. Naval Chaplains for Navy Personnel.
4. During the raising or lowering of the flag, or during its passage in a parade, all present should face the flag, and stand at attention with hand over their hearts. Men should remove their caps.

6. When the flag is flown at half-staff, it should first be elevated to peak position, held there momentarily, and lowered. At the day's end, the flag should again be elevated to peak position before lowering.
7. It is custom to display the flag only from sunrise to sunset outside. However, the flag may be displayed twenty-four hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness.
8. Always carry the flag aloft and free--never carry it flat or horizontally in processions or parades.
9. Always display the flag with the blue union field up--never display upside down, except as a distress signal. If upside down, this should be only in extreme distress.
10. When the flag is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.

6. The flag should never be used as a receptacle for receiving, holding, carrying, or delivering anything.
