WeBeLoS

Welcome to Webelos Scouting

Webelos Scouting will be a new world of adventure for your boy:  A way to learn new skills, to enjoy lots of outdoor activities, and most of all, to have fun.

What is Webelos Scouting?

Webelos scouting is the advanced part of the Cub Scouting program of the Boy Scouts of America.  If a boy has completed third grade or he is 10 years old, he's the right age for Webelos Scouting.  Most Webelos Scouts are in this program for about 18 months.  This is preparation for the great adventure of Boy Scouting.

ADVANCEMENT

Much of your boy's progress will take place through activities centered around his advancement.  He'll advance in Webelos Scouting by earning activity badges and other awards. The activity badges are colorful metal emblems that you pin on your Webelos Colors or Webelos Cap. Each of the activity badges focuses on a different subject in the areas of:

  • PHYSICAL SKILLS---Aquanaut, Athlete, *Fitness, Sportsman
  • MENTAL SKILLS---Artist, Scholor, Showman, Traveler
  • COMMUNITY---**Citizen, Communicator, Family Member, **Readyman
  • TECHNOLOGY---Craftsman, Engineer, Handyman, Scientist
  • OUTDOOR---Forester, Geologist, Naturalist, Outdoorsman

* FITNESS--Required for the Webelos Badge

**CITIZEN and READYMAN--Required for the Arrow of Light

WEBELOS will need to learn FIRST AID and to tie the following KNOTS:

  • Square Knot,
  • Bowline,
  • Clove Hitch,
  • Two Half Hitches,
  • Taut - Line Hitch.

The knots are found on the page of Eight Basic Knots for Boy Scouts.

To earn the Webelos badge you must earn three activity badges, each one from a different activity badge group. One of the badges must be Fitness, from the Physical Skill Group. The other two badges may be from the Mental Skills, Community, Technology, or Outdoor Group. You may wear the Webelos badge on your left shirt pocket. The Arrow of Light Award is the highest rank in Cub Scouting. First you will need to earn the Webelos Badge. You need a total of eight activity badges, including Citizen, Readyman, and Fitness. You'll already have three badges, including Fitness, from earning your Webelos Badge. The total must include at least one badge from each of the five activity badge groups. You'll wear your Arrow of Light Award on your left shirt pocket flap.
